Christian Körner - Driven hunt for wild boar

Dynamic and vividly rendered hunting scene depicting a group of wild boars fleeing across a snow-covered forest path. The composition captures a moment of intense movement, with the animals shown mid-stride as they surge diagonally through the picture plane, creating a strong sense of motion and immediacy.

The winter landscape is indicated through loose yet expressive brushwork, with patches of snow contrasting against darker earth tones and sparse vegetation. In the background, a hunter accompanied by dogs can be discerned, reinforcing the narrative of a driven hunt. Körner’s painterly technique combines naturalistic observation with a lively, almost impressionistic handling of paint, particularly evident in the treatment of the ground and surrounding foliage.

The work reflects the tradition of Central European hunting painting, a genre that remained popular well into the 20th century. The artist emphasizes the raw energy and physical presence of the animals, which dominate the foreground and form the central visual focus.

Signed lower right “Chr. Körner” and presented in an ornate gilt frame with elaborate Rococo-style ornamentation, enhancing its decorative appeal.
