J. Havenith (active late 19th–early 20th century)-Hunting Dog with Game Bird
Finely executed hunting scene depicting a dog in an alert, forward-moving pose, standing over freshly caught game. The animal is shown mid-step, its raised paw and attentive gaze conveying tension and readiness, characteristic of trained hunting dogs in the field.
The setting is a natural landscape with grasses, low vegetation, and distant hills or mountains, rendered with soft transitions and a clear, open sky. The composition balances the dynamic posture of the dog with the calm, expansive background.
Particular attention is given to the detailed rendering of the dog’s coat and anatomy, demonstrating careful observation and a naturalistic approach. The warm tones of the animal contrast harmoniously with the cooler blues and greens of the landscape.
Like the companion piece, this work exemplifies the tradition of European hunting painting around 1900, combining realism, movement, and a refined decorative quality.
Presented in a carved wooden frame.
