Leonard Wintorowski (signed 1917)
Hunting Party in an Autumn Forest

The painting depicts a hunting party in an autumnal woodland setting. Several mounted riders accompany hunters on foot, followed by a pack of hunting dogs actively picking up a scent. The scene unfolds beneath tall trees with foliage in warm shades of yellow, brown, and green.
The composition feels both lively and contemplative: while the dogs are already in motion, the hunters and riders appear to pause, as if orienting themselves. Light-filled passages alternate with shadowed areas, creating a strong sense of depth and atmosphere.
The artist places particular emphasis on the depiction of the animals and their natural integration into the landscape. A loose, almost impressionistic brushwork is combined with solid figure painting, characteristic of early 20th-century hunting scenes.
The richly ornamented gilt frame enhances the painting’s decorative and representative character.
