Long military rapier from the late 16th century, of Italian origin. The ricasso of the blade bears the inscription “Caino” as well as the corresponding crowned maker’s mark with the crowned “S,” which refers to the swordsmith Caino Pietro Milan. In the fuller of the blade are engraved lines of letters—difficult to decipher and presumably Kabbalistic in nature—which terminate below the fuller in a decorative engraving.
Over time, both the grip sleeve and the wire wrapping were renewed, as can be deduced from the overall condition of the rapier.
The total length of the rapier is 127 cm, with the blade measuring 110.5 cm. The weight is 1,184 g.
