A large patinated bronze sculpture of Diana the Huntress, the Roman goddess of the hunt, war, and the night. Depicted in motion, Diana holds a small stag by its antlers in her left hand while reaching for an arrow from the quiver slung across her back. She is dressed in a short tunic and sandals, her wavy hair gathered at the nape and secured with a diadem.

The sculpture bears the stamp “Mechanical Reduction A. Collas” and is signed “F. Barbedienne, Fondeur.” The model is based on the celebrated Diana of Versailles, a Roman marble copy from the Imperial period (2nd century AD), now in the Louvre Museum, itself after a lost Greek original of the 4th century BC, traditionally attributed to the Athenian sculptor Leochares.

The Barbedienne foundry, established in 1834 by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810–1892), was among the foremost producers of fine bronze casts in 19th-century France. This example dates to circa 1870.
