The impressive bronze statue, titled "Nymphe de Diane" (Nymph of Diana), is the work of French sculptor Lucie Signoret-Ledieu (1858–1904). First presented at the Paris Salon in 1889, the sculpture depicts Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt, in a moment of repose. Seated upon a rock, she shields her eyes with one hand while holding a flower in the other to drink from a spring—a motif that earned the piece its alternative title, "La Source." Her hunting bow and the quiver leaning against a tree trunk further emphasize her identity as a huntress. The artist was a pupil of the renowned sculptor Jean Gautherin and exhibited regularly at the Salon starting in 1878. Her works in patinated bronze are characterized by their fine detailing and often feature a golden-brown patina. Original period casts typically bear the signature "Mme Signoret Ledieu" on the base, sometimes accompanied by foundry marks such as the "AB" seal.
