Pierre Jules Méne Bronze Sculpture Dogs and Pheasant
Pierre-Jules Mène (1810–1879), bronze group depicting hunting dogs with a pheasant. The composition captures a dynamic hunting scene, with two finely modeled hounds engaging with the fallen game, conveying movement and narrative tension. The naturalistic treatment of the animals, particularly the detailed rendering of fur and anatomy, reflects Mène’s mastery as one of the leading French animal sculptors of the 19th century. The oval base is worked as a terrain plinth, enhancing the realism of the scene. Rich dark patina. Late 19th to early 20th century cast, after the model.
